black vive precision blood pressure monitor

The best blood pressure monitor puts all your important health metrics at the tip of your finger, letting you stay on top of cardiovascular health. However with all the features available, like type, cuff placement, memory and multi user capability, it can be hard to make the right choice. Take a look at our guide to get more info on all of our products, as well as recommendations chosen to fit your needs.

What to Consider When Choosing Your Blood Pressure Monitor

Learn more about what goes into our selection of blood pressure monitors here.

Type

Automatic/Digital

Automatic blood pressure monitors are designed for user-friendly convenience at the press of a button. An LCD display screen makes it easy to track blood pressure, pulse, irregular heartbeat and more, in large digital numbers that are easy to read. Both our upper arm monitors' display is backlit, for visibility in low light.

Operation for digital monitors is simple. The cuff automatically inflates, leaving you to watch the display for an instant reading.

Manual/Aneroid

Manual blood pressure monitors are able to match many of the features offered by automatic designs, with the added benefit of plug and battery independence. This lets you check your blood pressure anywhere, anytime. The large, high-contrast dial on our Sphygmomanometer is easy to read and perfect for self-measurements.

Cuff Placement

Upper Arm

Upper arm blood pressure monitors are the classic option, since the cuff is positioned level with the heart. This ensures easy and accurate readings. Most of our cuffs are made for the upper arm, including our upper arm monitor, compact monitor, and Sphygmomanometer.

Wrist

Blood pressure monitors for the wrist are still simple to use and deliver accurate readings. Because of their compact size, it’s easy to take them traveling or to doctors appointments. They are a good choice for those with wider upper arms, who find upper arm readings painful, or have limited arm mobility and need to take a self-reading..

Cuff Size

Our Blood pressure monitors come in a range of cuff sizes, to accommodate many different users:

  • Upper Arm Monitor: 8.75” to 16.5”
  • Smart Monitor: 8.5” to 16.5”
  • Wrist Monitor: 4.9” to 8.3” (sized to wrist)
  • Compact Monitor: 8.5” to 16.5”
  • Sphygmomanometer: 9.84” to 15.75”

Ensuring a proper fit is easy. Whether you’re using a wrist or upper arm cuff, try to two-finger test. When the cuff is wrapped around your arm, you should be able to slip two fingertips beneath it. If you can fit three, the cuff is too loose. If only one, then it’s too tight. Adjust accordingly and take your reading.

FDA Approved

All of our blood pressure monitors are FDA approved. This ensures their safety and effectiveness for patient use, and lets you rest assured that you are getting accurate results and quality product.

Features

Smart Device Capability

Have all your blood pressure readings at your fingertips. Our Smart Blood Pressure Monitor wirelessly connects to both iOS and Android devices with the Vive Precision App for easy tracking. This convenient feature allows you to effortlessly reference previous readings for doctors appointments whether in person or via telehealth without having to have your BPM on hand.

Memory

All of our digital blood pressure monitors feature an internal memory, which allows users to keep track of past measurements. This makes it easy to track changes in blood pressure, storing the date and time with each measurement. Our upper arm monitor can store up to 500 measurements, the wrist can store 60, while the compact monitor can store up to 180 measurements. The smart blood pressure monitor design offers the largest memory for a total of 960 measurements (240 for each user).

Multi User Capability

The wrist and compact monitors can each store the data of two different users, offering added convenience for families. The Smart Blood Pressure monitor offers up to 4 users. Switch between each user as often as needed, and keep track of everyone’s measurements over the long term.

Heart Rate

Our digital blood pressure monitors can also measure heart rate, making them a good way to track fitness and overall cardiovascular health. They can also detect irregular heart beats, alerting you to unseen heart conditions.

Accessories

Stethoscope

Stethoscopes are an effective tool to use with any of are blood pressure monitors, but are recommended for our sphygmomanometer. While the sphygmomanometer can take systolic readings on its own, a stethoscope (not included) is needed for diastolic blood pressure. See our FAQ below for more information on how it’s done.

Carrying Case

The wrist and compact, and smart blood pressure monitors as well as the sphygmomanometer all include a portable carrying case, that makes it easy to transport the cuff, display, and any other accessories. Use it to take pressure readings anywhere you need to.

Power Adapters

Our digital pressure monitors are battery powered, letting you take advantage of accurate readings anywhere you go. For home use, the upper arm and compact monitors can be plugged into an outlet using a 6V adapter (not included). The adapter has a 6 foot cord and can be used with either our upper arm or compact monitors.

Frequently Asked Questions

For questions related to your blood pressure, we always recommend that you speak with your primary care physician.

Q: How is diastolic blood pressure taken with a manual blood pressure monitor?

A: Follow our step-by-step guide to accurate diastolic blood pressure readings:

  1. Place the cuff on your wrist or arm. It should be at the same height as your heart.
  2. After the cuff is on, place the stethoscope disk beneath it, face down to the inner side of your arm.
  3. Squeeze the pump repeatedly with your other hand, until the gauge reads 30 points above your usual systolic pressure.
  4. Release pressure on the pump by turning the valve on the pump.
  5. Let the pressure meter fall 2 millimeters per second and listen to the beats through your stethoscope.
  6. Note the pressure when you stop hearing beats. This is your diastolic reading.

Q: Are home blood pressure machines accurate?

A: The accuracy of a home blood pressure monitor depends on its quality and the testing process it undergoes. At Vive Health, we only supply blood pressure monitors that are calibrated for accurate results. Our digital monitors are individually tested so you can be sure you are getting precise readings every time.

Q: How can I get an accurate blood pressure reading?

A: For the most accurate results, check your blood pressure at the same time each day. Relax for five minutes before the test and try to remain relaxed throughout, until your result displays. Do not smoke, drink alcohol or caffeine, or exercise vigorously in the 60 minutes before taking your blood pressure.

Q: Why is my blood pressure higher in the morning?

A: Many people notice that their blood pressure is highest when they wake up. This is not a fault with your blood pressure monitor—it occurs because the body’s levels of the hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline are highest in the morning. These hormones increase blood pressure, while also giving you an energy boost.
